Dilworth

Originally one of the first suburbs in Charlotte, Dilworth formed along street car lines extending out from the city. Originally developed in 1891 by Entrepreneuer and street car owner Edward Dilworth Latta, his vision of Dilworth featured elegant mansions, large boulevards, parks, and quaint bungalows. The area not only had these features, but was a short distance from the industrial complex along South Blvd that housed textile mills and a foundry. Today, many of these buildings have been restored and feature restaurants, galleries, and shops. It remains a popular part of town with easy access to shopping restaurants, and the Uptown.

Location

The Dilworth neighborhood extends South from the southern portion of I-277 in the Uptown. It is bound by South Blvd to the West and Kings Drive to the East.

This area is within walking distance to: Uptown Charlotte, Businesses along East Morehead, Latta Park, Little Sugar Creek Greenway, Freedom Park and a variety of shops including the shops at Dilworth Gardens and restaurants along South Blvd and Kenilworth.

The Trolley/Light Rail line has stops serving this area along South blvd at Carson Blvd and East Blvd.
